Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (USA, 1996, 98 min.). Digital.

This beloved “true story” from the Coen brothers is a darkly hilarious tale of a crime gone wrong in 1987 Minnesota. Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) is a timorous car salesman who has gotten himself into debt and is so desperate for money that he hires two thugs (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) to kidnap his own wife. Due to the incompetence of everyone involved, things don’t quite go according to plan, and it isn’t long before upstanding police chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand in an Oscar-winning performance) uncovers the bizarre chain of events.
