Directed by Pierre Salvadori (France, 2018, 108 min.). Digital. French with English subtitles.

Starring Audrey Tautou, Adéle Haenel, and Pio Marmaï, this screwball comedy follows a police officer named Yvonne who discovers that her recently deceased detective husband was, in fact, a crooked cop. As Yvonne tries to make up for her husband’s transgressions, she winds up playing guardian angel to Antoine, an innocent man who was wrongfully convicted for her husband’s crimes. But prison has taken a toll on Antoine’s sanity, and keeping him out of trouble is more work than Yvonne imagined. This stylish romp was a favorite at Cannes, winning awards in the Directors’ Fortnight program.

“As crazed and lawless as the action gets . . . it’s the underlying sweetness of The Trouble with You that makes it so pleasurable.”—The Hollywood Reporter

The film also screens on Saturday, July 11 as part of Sunset Cinema.
