Meet in Sharf Visitor Center
The process to create bronze sculptures like John Wilson’s “Father and Child Reading” often begin in the form of plaster maquettes or models. Unlike the finished sculpture, which is cast in a foundry, the maquette is crafted by the artist’s own hands and reveals a lot about his working practice. Join this opportunity to look closely at Wilson’s three-part plaster maquette, and hear what conservators discovered about the self-taught sculptor by examining tangible evidence of his handcrafting.
With Emilie Tréhu, associate conservator, Objects Conservation Laboratory.
