Class Schedule

February 2, 2023—The Art of the Book: Making Paper

This package is all about books! Explore the Museum in search of books while thinking about how they are made and what an “art book” is. Then create handmade paper for your own book!

February 9, 2023—The Art of the Book: Illustration and Art Books

Art has played an important role in books throughout the centuries. Visit the MFA's William Morris Hunt Memorial Library to talk with the librarian and have a special opportunity to look closely at beautifully illustrated books from the Museum’s collection. Then create printed illustrations for your book using Gelli printing plates or Soft-Kut linoleum and ink.

February 16, 2023—The Art of the Book: Bindings and Covers

You’ve heard about not judging a book by its cover, but a book’s binding is what holds it all together! Look at the different materials and patterns that go into creating book bindings then create the cover and end papers for your own book.

March 2, 2023—The Art of the Book: Storytelling

Stories have an important place in society, allowing information to be passed down from generation to generation. Think about how people from different cultures and time periods have recorded stories while looking at objects from the Museum’s collections. Then finish your book and share it with others!
