Life magazine was a champion of American modernism, actively promoting the work of a wide range of 20th-century artists, including Thomas Hart Benton, Hyman Bloom, Stuart Davis, Helen Frankenthaler, Marsden Hartley, Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andrew Wyeth. Explore Life’s mid-century commissions, exhibitions, and coverage of modern American art, including both abstract expressionism and figurative art, and see how Life magazine shaped the public and the critical reception of modern art in the United States.
