Lucy Dodd: A Slice of Life

For her commissioned work for the installation in the Linde Family Wing galleries, Lucy Dodd presents a major new architectural construction of paintings. The unveiling of the work is accompanied by a performance by the artist and bohemian coterie, who feature in oceanic costume and character.

A pop-up gallery for an elevated experience featuring a variety of artists with distinct frames of mind, including sounds by violinist John Randolph.

Amalia Pica: Now, Speak!

8 pm–2 am, Level 3, Art of the Americas Wing

Amalia Pica’s lectern on view in “Women Take the Floor” is an invitation to publicly share our unique voices. “I am interested in what brings us together, and so communication and its difficulties are for me a sign of how much we need each other,” says Pica. Share something at any point throughout the night—a speech or poem, prepared or improvised.

Art Making: Color Field Painting

Experiment with brilliant hues on unprimed canvas to create your own work of art inspired by Color Field paintings on view in “Contemporary Art: Five Propositions.”

Creative Residency: Regie Gibson

Feel the power, beauty, art, and imagination of ancient Nubia when you join literary performer Regie Gibson in the galleries as he presents an original poetic text dedicated to that grand legacy calling to us across the ages.

Spotlight Talks: Hyman Bloom

As Halloween approaches, discover how painter Hyman Bloom represented life and death as cyclical and everlasting forces. Join Martina Tanga, Art of the Americas curatorial research and interpretation associate, Art Bridges-Terra Initiative, for this ten-minute look at “Hyman Bloom: Matters of Life and Death.”

Guests of all ages are welcome; visitors wishing to consume alcohol must be 21+. Valid ID with proof of age is required to purchase alcohol. Food and drink will be available for purchase; no outside food or beverage allowed.

All bags are subject to inspection by Museum staff. Backpacks and large bags are not permitted. All other smaller bags are strongly discouraged, and may need to be checked in the Coat Room upon entry.

The MFA has a strict no smoking policy; this includes vaporizers.

The MFA reserves the right to deny entry or to ask guests to leave at any time.

All Museum policies apply to after-hours events. Please follow guidance of Museum staff regarding permitted areas for food and drink and other safety measures.
