On view through May 2021, “Women Take the Floor” challenges the dominant history of 20th-century American art by focusing on the overlooked and underrepresented work and stories of women artists. Already a favorite among visiting student groups, this reinstallation—or “takeover”—of Level 3 of the Art of the Americas Wing advocates for diversity, inclusion, and gender equity in museums, the art world, and beyond. The featured speakers give background on key works of art and describe the process of developing the exhibition and planning how visitors experience it, including commissioning a poem from Boston poet laureate, Porsha Olayiwola, what is the suffrage movement to a blk womyn?: an anthem. This free workshop for teachers includes tours of the exhibition with Gallery Instructors.
