Join racial justice educators from Wee The People to explore “Writing the Future: Basquiat and the Hip-Hop Generation,” focusing on using dynamic Black-affirming approaches to engage students with the art of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The exhibition features Basquiat’s visionary work in painting, sculpture, drawing, video, music, and fashion alongside that of his contemporaries—and collaborators—A-One, ERO, Fab Five Freddy, Futura, Keith Haring, Kool Koor, LA2, Lady Pink, Lee, Rammellzee, and Toxic. Throughout the 1980s, they fueled new directions in fine art, design, and music, and the popularity of hip-hop culture. Wee The People guides educators in this free workshop through works from the exhibition and share expertise in designing interactive learning experiences for kids of all ages and backgrounds celebrating Black identity and expression.
