Abstract Paintings

Take a closer look at a variety of abstract paintings in the Museum. How do they make you feel? 
Activity: Create watercolor resist paintings on canvas.
Instructors: Kara Stokowski and Alanna Woodlock

Ages 6--8

Creating Colors

Explore the galleries in search of abstract art and discover how artists combine colors to convey feelings and showcase their ideas. 
Activity: Create a color field painting using acrylic paint on canvas.
Instructors: Sarah Pollman and Molly Lamb

Ages 9--11

Shoe Design

Discover the Museum’s shoe collection ranging from Native American hand-beaded moccasins to contemporary benches that are shaped like shoes with high heels. 
Activity: Create, sew, and decorate your own inventive shoe using cardboard, felt, and colorful embellishments.

Making Modern

Explore “Making Modern” to learn about the overlapping lives of these 20th-century painters.
