Directed by Nicholas Roeg (UK, 1976, 139 min.). Digital.

In this artful sci-fi from the late British director Nicholas Roeg (Don’t Look Now, Walkabout), David Bowie plays Thomas Jerome Newton, an alien who has come to Earth in search of water to save his home planet. Aided by lawyer Oliver Farnsworth (Buck Henry), Thomas uses his knowledge of advanced technology to create profitable inventions. While developing a method to transport water, Thomas meets Mary-Lou (Candy Clark), a quiet hotel clerk, and begins to fall in love.

Come early at 7 pm to grab a drink in Taste Café and catch a Bowie-inspired musical performance by Somerville-based band The Wrong Shapes! Like Lou Reed and Nico floating on a drum machine in a sea of cellos, cello/guitar/electronic/vocal duo Bo and Rachel Barringer make darkly introspective music with just the right amount of uplift and ache.
