Directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan (2018, 188 min.). Digital. In Turkish with English subtitles.

Renowned Turkish auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Winter Sleep; Once Upon a Time in Anatolia) directs this gorgeous drama about an ambitious intellectual named Sinan who dreams of becoming a writer. After graduating from college, Sinan returns to the village where he was born and puts his heart and soul into scraping together enough money to be published. Although he has big plans to move back to the city as soon as possible, things become complicated when he encounters old friends, an old love, and his father’s debts.

“A delicious, human tableau . . . another deeply satisfying, intelligent piece of filmmaking from Ceylan.”
