Documentary directed by Christy Garland (2018, 91 min.). Digital. Arabic with English subtitles.
Raised in a refugee camp in the West Bank while her mother was in an Israeli prison, Walaa dreams of being a policewoman, wearing a uniform, avoiding marriage, and earning a salary. Despite discouragement from her family, Walaa applies to the academy—and gets in. But she faces many challenges, including a complicated relationship with her mother and her own rebellious behavior.
Following Walaa from age 15 to 21, this first-ever look inside the Palestinian police academy brings us an intimate look at a rebellious girl fighting tenaciously for her dream.
