The recently acquired painting, Autorretrato con Espejo (Self-portrait with Mirror), dated 1937, by renowned Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros, inspires us to explore the works of modern artists who pushed the boundaries. Siqueiros was a great innovator, known for using synthetic paints and unusual supports. We will examine the experimental techniques and materials of Siqueiros and other 20th-century artists, including Jackson Pollock, Elaine de Kooning, Arthur Dove, Loïs Maillou Jones, Hans Hofmann and Franz Kline. Co-organized by Curators Circle: Art of the Americas and Curators Circle: Conservation and Collections.
