A multimedia performance by Boston-based artist collective MASARY Studios, Harsh Is Truth poses the questions: how is truth defined, and how do different perceptions of truth converge in public spaces? Live, original music fused with video projections illuminates the walls of the MFA’s Remis Auditorium, inviting listeners to contemplate our city’s unique history as a place to rise, resist, and share one’s personal truth. The performance features responses to questions about truth, action, and change—stories, poems, and phrases provided by recent visitors to Boston’s Freedom and Black Heritage trails—along with historical speeches and statements. Presented in association with “Ansel Adams in Our Time.”
The work is a 45-minute live performance, featuring two string players, two percussionists, and visual projections.
An original performance by MASARY Studios.
About MASARY Studios:
MASARY Studios is a team of artists awakening built and natural environments through live music performance and video projection mapping. By unlocking the hidden possibilities of an urban landscape or space, MASARY’s works are at once a performance, a dissection of architecture, and an immersive visual spectacle. When approaching a new project, their inspiration comes from the structure or environment itself as well as the history and local culture embedded in the place. The animation and musical works are developed in concert—one informing the other—allowing many turns of reflection and refraction.
MASARY Studios is: Maria Finkelmeier, Sam “Samo” Okerstrom-Lang, and Ryan Edwards.
