MFA Gallery Instructors

MFA Gallery Instructors lead interactive guided tours for school groups at the Museum. This dedicated team of more than 120 volunteer educators has extensive training in both museum education pedagogy and the MFA’s collection. Gallery Instructors are required to participate in regular professional development that includes in-depth study of the collection and strategies for working with 21st-century students.

On guided tours Gallery Instructors facilitate student-centered discussions about works of art, inviting students to look closely, interpret, and offer evidence for their reasoning. In preparation for a school’s guided tour, one of the Gallery Instructors leading the tours will contact the teacher organizing the visit to find out more about his or her goals for the tour and how, if at all, the tour is intended to connect to what students are studying in the classroom.
