To prepare for your arrival, download the MFA School Group Visit Checklist (PDF).
Groups entering prior to 4:30 pm will enter through the Group Entrance on Museum Road. Groups entering at 4:30 pm or later must enter through the State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance on the Fenway. Additional entry information will be provided in the confirmation e-mail you receive three weeks prior to your visit.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled entry time to ensure a timely check-in and entry. Have your students wait outside or on the bus while a teacher or chaperone enters the Museum with the group’s headcount, confirmation number, and payment to check-in.
If your group is running late, please call Group Sales at 617-369-3310 as soon as possible. If you are late for a guided tour, you will receive an abbreviated tour. If you are over 30 minutes late for a guided tour, it will be cancelled and your group will be admitted for a self-guided visit.
Groups cannot be admitted prior to their confirmed entry time. If your group arrives early, please have a teacher or chaperone enter the Museum to proceed with check-in and have your group wait on the bus. If your group is extra early, you are welcome to look at the sculptures outside on the Museum grounds and at the Japanese Garden (open seasonally), all of which can be accessed without entering the Museum; please do not wait at the Group Entrance as it can disrupt other groups’ entry and cause delays.
Prior to your arrival, organize your students and chaperones into evenly divided groups. If coming for a guided tour, please divide your students into the number of groups requested by your Gallery Instructor. Typically there are approximately ten students and one chaperone in each group. Please note that last-minute adjustments to group sizes are sometimes required upon arrival at the Museum.
Nametags can be worn by students at the school’s discretion. The Museum does not provide nametags.
Please leave belongings on the bus whenever possible, including lunches if you have not reserved space for lunch in advance. The Museum has a limited number of bins available for groups to check coats and other belongings. All parcels, umbrellas, and bags larger than 11 x 15 inches must be left in a bin. Bags containing medical equipment or for use in nursing/child care are allowed in the Museum. The following items cannot be checked: laptop computers, cameras, and other valuables. The Museum assumes no responsibility for any lost or stolen items.
For groups with reserved lunch space, bagged lunches should be separated from other bags and backpacks to expedite the entry procedure. Please note that school groups are welcome to eat bagged lunches outside on MFA grounds, but there are no other spaces for eating inside the Museum open to school groups. See Reserved Lunch Space for more details.
The Lost and Found is located in Sharf Visitor Center. You may also contact Lost and Found by phone at 617-369-4296.

Boston traffic is unpredictable, especially during rush hour on weekday mornings.
We recommend using an online navigation tool to estimate how long it can take to travel to the Museum on a weekday morning. Sites and apps like Google Maps include an Arrive By feature that allows you to set the date and time of your trip. Remember to plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled start!
Buses can bring students to the Group Entrance in the Linde Family Wing, located on Museum Road. If your group is arriving at 4:30 pm or later, you will enter at the State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance.
Take the Green Line E Train to the Museum of Fine Arts stop, or take the Orange Line to the Ruggles Stop (a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Museum).
The Museum has limited school bus parking available on a first-come, first-served basis for groups with reservations. The bus parking lot is located on Museum Road between the Museum’s two surface parking lots, immediately outside of the Group Entrance. Additionally, the City of Boston has designated the north side of Huntington Avenue, between Belvedere Street and Massachusetts Avenue, for bus parking. More information about bus parking in the Boston area can be found on the City of Boston website.
Cars and vans can park in the Museum Road Garage or the MFA’s surface lots for a fee. Drivers for groups can receive the member parking rate by presenting their confirmation letter to the attendant. For rates and additional information, visit Parking.
