The Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Paintings Conservation Studio was established in 1902 in the form of a single Keeper of Paintings, who was responsible for cleaning and repairing artworks. Today, the lab oversees the conservation of all Western paintings in the Museum's collections, including medieval panel paintings, Renaissance frescos and easel paintings, and contemporary works.
Collections Management
Collections Management comprises three intersecting subdivisions: registrars plan and orchestrate logistics for works of art entering and leaving the Museum; collections care specialists are responsible for supervising the movement and safe handling of artworks within the museum; and collections information personnel maintains comprehensive object files and manages Artemis, the Museum's centralized collections management system.
Libraries and Archives
The Museum of Fine Arts Library comprises the William Morris Hunt Memorial Library and eight curatorial department libraries.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, supports and encourages location filming on the Museum's premises. If you are shooting a film, documentary, interview, or student production, you must obtain permission from MFA Images to proceed.
