Reconsidering Mid-Century American Fame

September 24–October 31, 2019

The mid 20th century found many American artists at the crossroads of fame. Join curators and scholars to consider—and reconsider—the idea of “popularity” as we explore key figures both well known, such as Jackson Pollock, and lesser known, like Isabel Bishop. This course is inspired by three exhibitions currently on view: “Collecting Stories: A Mid-Century Experiment,” “Mural: Jackson Pollock l Katharina Grosse,” and “Hyman Bloom: Matters of Life and Death.”

Take the full 5-week course or choose the lectures that interest you most.
