Explore the many ways artists have probed the puzzling concept of the self as a subject, from the Renaissance to today. How has self-portraiture developed and changed across time, place, and media? Learn historical overviews and analyze current MFA exhibitions to discover the personal, social, and political implications behind depictions of identity.
