Ne vous voyant pas assister à Nice je me suis figuré que vous étiez allée en Bretagne, mais, il parait que vous ne l’avez pas quitté Paris. Comme vous avez de l’imprévu !
Le portrait de Madame Gautreau est enfin commencé. C’est plus joli à faire que je ne croyais, et je vous en rassurais de nouveau. J’espère que vous viendrez avec elle à une des séances passer l’après-midi à mon atelier.
J’ai gardé votre portrait chez moi un jour. A passer le faire photographier. Vous l’aurez [? illegible].

Dear Madam,
Having not seen you in Nice I imagined that you would have gone to Brittany, but it seems that you have not left Paris. You must have had something unforeseen come up!
The portrait of Mme Gautreau is finally begun. It is lovelier to do than I had thought, and I reassure you of that again. I hope that you will come with her to one of the sittings and spend the afternoon in my studio.
I’ve kept your portrait at my place for now. To have it photographed. You will have it [? illegible].
