An Adventure with Wallace & Gromit

Wallace & Gromit, Aardman Animation's Oscar-winning clay animation duo, were featured at the MFA in 1998. Daily screenings of the acclaimed trilogy "A Grand Day Out," "The Wrong Trousers," and "A Close Shave" invited visitors to become fully acquainted with the amiable Wallace and his enterprising canine housemate, Gromit. Original production sets, plasticine figures, and storyboards were also be on view, as well as a short video in which Aardman director and animator Nick Park demonstrates both the creativity and the painstaking labor required to produce these lively shorts. Souvenir flip books were available to illustrate the basic principle of animation and encourage visitors to create their own moving images.

Beginning in April of 2008, the MFA Film Program presented the film series "Aardman Animations: Beyond Wallace & Gromit," an exclusive engagement including the East Coast premiere of "Stage Fright." The Film Program presents more than four hundred screenings each year, featuring the work of both regional and international filmmakers, who are often present to introduce their work.
