Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean by Robert Altman (1982, 109 min.). The Disciples of James Dean fan club (Sandy Dennis, Cher, and Karen Black) reunites to honor the twentieth anniversary of Dean’s death. Through a series of flashbacks, each fan recounts their dreams, aspirations, and failures of the past two decades. While all the film’s actresses give stellar performances, it was Cher who earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work as an aging bombshell. “A richly textured mixture of confessions, obsessions, and surprises . . . Cher’s performance here is a revelation” (Roger Ebert).
