İstanbul Makamı is a cinematographic improvisation with five musicians from abroad who fell in love with Maqam music (classical Ottoman music), and decided to live in Turkey, believing that the genre would be best learned and performed in the land where it originated. Each musician has a unique story.

In 2014, the three-year-old Baksı Museum in Bayburt’s Bayraktar village surpassed world-renowned contenders and won the Council of Europe Museum Prize. Nestled in a landscape of impassable mountains where the Black Sea region meets Eastern Anatolia, the museum was the idea of the painter and academic Hüsamettin Koçan, who decided to build a sanctuary for the arts in his hometown. This is the story of how Kocan’s dream became a reality.
