Interest in Japanese photobooks – a primary means by which photographers present their work – has surged in recent years. Media artist, writer, and photobook collector Russet Lederman will share and discuss a selection of the most important Japanese photobooks of the last half century, all drawn from her private collection. Lederman, who lives in New York City and teaches at the School of Visual Arts, is a co-organizer of the 10×10 Photobooks project and an editor of the volume 10×10 Japanese Photobooks (2014). She regularly writes on photobooks for print and online journals including FOAM, The Eyes, and the International Center of Photography’s library blog. Presented in conjunction with In the Wake: Japanese Photographers Respond to 3/11, on view in the MFA’s Foster Gallery, several 3/11 photographers’ books will also be available for viewing. A reception will follow after the program in Bravo.

This is a private event for Friends of Photography members.
