Amalia Pica’s performance sculpture Now Speak!, on view in the exhibition “Political Intent,” invites us to use our voices to activate art, create social space, and reinterpret history over time. This performance features community members who deliver a historical speech by an individual with difference physical characteristics than them. Why this difference? To create a disruption that triggers our attention to how we absorb information: who is speaking (consciously or not) influences how we understand what is said.
During this activation, Nancy Bauer, shares a speech that introduces the free panel discussion Breaking News: Identity, Violence, and the Media presented on the occasion of the exhibition, “Breaking News: Cassils,” at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
