The lily of the valley was Christian Dior’s favorite flower. Deeply superstitious, Dior chose it as his good-luck charm–he always wore a sprig in his buttonhole and reportedly sewed dried flowers into the hem of each haute couture ensemble. The auspicious flowers are part of a French tradition dating back to the 16th century, where they are given to family members on Fête du Muguet (France’s equivalent of Labor Day) to bring good luck and happiness. This necklace is draped around the neck to give protection to the wearer.
