Lyndon Tsosie
2008
Sterling silver, gold (18k), sugilite, lapis lazuli, spiny oyster, boulder opal
This sculptural bracelet centers a stylized figure created from inlaid opal with gold and combines purple, blue, and red stones in an arrangement that brings to mind the colors and the landscape and sacred mountains of Navajo Nation, with its rolling hills and mesas. The title of the bracelet “Enuh’’ translates to “life,” and, made shortly after the death of his father, Tsosie describes the central figure as representing “life, beauty, human beings, the soul—the beauty of human motherhood, fatherhood, childhood.” The head, half opal and half coral, represents the circle of life, from day to night, and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next.
