Poems to Kali
Even though the goddess Kali embodies violence and destruction, from the 1700s on Bengali Hindus have expressed their devotion to her by humanizing her, addressing her like a beloved mother. Poems to Kali, meant to be sung, sometimes praise and compliment the goddess, while others complain to or critique her.
