A bound manuscript opened to two pages with Arabic calligraphy and blue and gold decoration.

Imam Muhammad Nabeel of the American Muslim Center in Everett, MA recites verses from sura (chapter) 12 of the Qurʾan. Sura Yusuf tells the story of the prophet Yusuf (Joseph). It relates how Yusuf endured many hardships, but eventually—due to his honor and faithfulness—was rewarded by God.

Listen to the recitation of these verses from sura 12 here, or visit the Arts of Islamic Cultures gallery to see them in calligraphic form (object record).

Verses 53 to 57 from sura twelve can be translated as: “Joseph proposed, ‘Put me in charge of the storehouses of the land, for I am truly reliable and adept.’ This is how We established Joseph in the land to settle wherever he pleased. We shower Our mercy on whoever We will, and We never discount the reward of the good doers. And the reward of the Hereafter is far better for those who are faithful and are mindful [of Allah].”
