Letter from Robinson to Sargent, March 13, 1904

[in Edward Robinson’s hand, on Garlants Hotel stationery]

Copy

Sunday, March 13, 1904.

My dear John:

Warren asks me to say to you that in view of your strong recommendation of the “El Greco,” he is willing to authorize an offer of $15,000 for it, in behalf of the Museum. Will you wire this offer to your friend Madrazo, and ask him to wire his reply?

As the mention of the Museum might suggest America, and hence untold wealth, it would probably be better that the offer be made in your own name, or at least that we should not appear in it.

Yours

E—R—

John S. Sargent Esq
