Meet acclaimed Nigerian American artist Victor Ekpuk, who discusses his practice and creative process in dialogue with Christa Clarke, the MFA's consulting curator for African art. The multidisciplinary artist’s glyph-like visual abstractions, rooted in indigenous knowledge systems, range from paintings and drawings to ephemeral wall murals, large-scale public sculpture, and immersive installations. Our conversation includes Ekpuk’s most recent series, I Am My Ancestors’ Essence, in which the artist recomposes and reimagines classical works of African sculpture as portraiture.
This program is scheduled to be an in-person event, however details may be subject to change.
