Meet New York–based artist Helina Metaferia whose work will be on display at the MFA this fall in the exhibition "Helina Metaferia: Generations." Metaferia is an interdisciplinary artist working across performance, video, installation, collage, and social engagement. Her work tells overlooked stories that center Black bodies in positions of power and vulnerability, informed by written and oral archives, dialogical art, and somatic experiences. In conversation with Michelle Millar Fisher, Ronald C. and Anita L. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Art, Metaferia discusses her engagement with the MFA, the status of her project, her work over the pandemic with the Wide Awakes, and her future projects.
