3-D technologies are transforming art conservation at the MFA, with both photogrammetry and 3-D printing becoming valuable tools in the documentation and care of the collections. Take a closer look at 3-D-printed examples, including one of a Japanese Nō mask, to learn how accurate scale and miniature replicas can have broad applications for conservators, mountmakers, and educators alike. The technique can support many facets of preservation work, from creating missing pieces to developing storage and display solutions for fragile objects.

With Patricia Navedo García, graduate conservation intern, Objects Conservation Laboratory.
