Japanese swords are complex objects that often include ornate mounting components. One of these elements is the tsuba, a guard at the end of the grip of bladed Japanese weapons. Conservators are currently preparing a group of highly-decorative tsubas from the 18th and 19th centuries for installation in the Conservation Center this summer. Join this close-looking program to preview three of the tsubas and see their exquisite craftsmanship in detail.

With Evelyn Mayberger, assistant conservator, Objects Conservation Laboratory.

Free with general admission. No advance registration or tickets required. Due to space constraints, tours are limited to 12 participants (first come, first served). Tours meet at Sharf Visitor Center. Assistive listening devices available upon request.
