Salvador Dalí is often regarded as outlandish and iconoclastic, but despite the artist’s distinct Surrealist vision and penchant for bizarre imagery, his art was also deeply rooted in tradition.
“Dalí: Disruption and Devotion” juxtaposes nearly 30 paintings and prints on loan from the Salvador Dalí Museum with European masterpieces from the MFA’s collection, including portraits, religious scenes, and still-lifes by El Greco, Orazio Gentileschi, and Velázquez, among others.
Join Julia Welch, assistant curator of paintings, Art of Europe, as she examines the mustachioed Surrealist’s recognizable eccentricity and reverence to his European predecessors.
