Join us to discuss “Translating American Stories,” the first initiative to bring multiple languages into the MFA’s permanent collection galleries. Art of the Americas curators worked with multilingual staff, artists, and community members to author new labels for iconic works of art and translate them into Spanish, Chinese, Haitian Creole, and Portuguese—the languages most commonly spoken in Boston after English—as well as Wabanaki, a Native language of the region. Hear from Layla Bermeo, Kristin and Roger Servison Curator of Paintings, who speaks about the collaborative process, outreach to community members from diverse backgrounds, and fresh interpretations of historical art in the collection.
