Out of the Blue: Japanese Woodblock Colorants

The MFA’s renowned collection of Japanese woodblock prints prominently features the color blue. Take a deep dive into the fascinating origins and properties of different blues, including dayflower, indigo, and Prussian blue, their use in MFA prints, and their connection to the present. Printmaker and SMFA graduate Khadine Caines discusses and unveils the dayflower print commissioned for the inaugural installation in the Conservation Center.
