How do museums work with local communities and contemporary artists to tell complex stories about American history? Join a panel discussion with MFA curators, a local college student, and contemporary artist to preview Hear Me Now: the Black Potters of Old Edgefield, South Carolina. In addition to monumental storage jars by enslaved and literate potter and poet Dave or David Drake, utilitarian wares, and powerful face vessels by unrecorded makers, the exhibition features works by contemporary artists such as Theaster Gates and Simone Leigh responding to the legacy of the Edgefield potters.
