In partnership with Sotheby’s, join artists Fab 5 Freddy, Futura, Lee Quiñones, and Lady Pink for a discussion on the post-graffiti moment in 1980s New York, which marked the transition of street art from city walls and subway trains on to canvas and into the art world. The artists behind this important, but still under-recognized, movement in American art history offer reflections on their roles as prophetic founders of hip-hop culture. Introduced by Nina Del Rio, SVP, vice chairman, head of Sotheby’s Corporate Collections and Museum Services, and moderated by Lorraine and Alan Bressler Curator of Contemporary Art Liz Munsell, the panel celebrates “Writing the Future: Basquiat and the Hip-Hop Generation.”
This is a livestreamed virtual event and will end with a Q and A session.
