Please join us for the opening celebration of “Stories Artists Tell: Art of the Americas, the 20th Century,” the newly installed galleries on Level 3 of the Art of the Americas Wing.

The central space features “Touching Roots: Black Ancestral Legacies in the Americas,” which brings together the work of Black artists who engage with African artistic traditions, aesthetic expression, and sacred practices. Each adjacent gallery presents icons from the collection together with lesser-known works and new acquisitions. Together the galleries span place and time, and explore different themes—from Native perspectives on the Southwest to ways artists reckoned with the traumas of World War II; from the knotty politics of realist painting in Latin America to the vibrant links between art, design, and jazz in the early 1900s.

This program is scheduled to be an in-person event, however details may be subject to change.
