Discover the extraordinary stories of “Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories” and more with free admission to the MFA on Friday, November 26, thanks to Chase. Enjoy free Museum admission—including access to the special exhibition “Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories.”
From 10 am to 3 pm, stop by the Shapiro Family Courtyard to pick up a free quilt-inspired art activity for children of all ages! Create a quilt square and fun designs out of magnetic craft foam tangram shapes.
“Fabric of a Nation” features masterpieces of fabric that tell inclusive, human stories of our rich shared history. Made by American artists—male and female known and unidentified, urban and rural, LGBTQIA+, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Asian—and ranging from family heirlooms to acts of political protest, each quilt has its own story to tell. The exhibition invites visitors to celebrate the artistry and intricacy of quilts and coverlets and the lives they document, while also considering the complicated legacies ingrained in the fabric of American life.
Please be aware that “Fabric of a Nation” contains nudity and some challenging imagery, including depictions of racial stereotypes, lynching victims, and the Ku Klux Klan. We stand behind showing these works of art—and their power to spark conversations about difficult aspects of America’s history. We recognize and value the variety of lived experiences our visitors bring into the galleries, so we are providing this information to help ensure that everyone finds a safe space at the Museum. We welcome any questions at [email protected].
