Meet in Sharf Visitor Center
Hidden beneath John Wilson’s Self-Portrait (1943), painted when the artist was just 21 years old, is a second self-portrait, revealed when the painting underwent X-radiography. Much can be understood of Wilson’s early approach to painting and materials by looking at the painting through various imaging techniques. Join this opportunity to hear what conservators have discovered and learn about the multiple conservation campaigns the painting has undergone throughout the years.
With Rachel Childers, assistant conservator, Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Paintings Conservation Studio.
