Beginning in the 16th century, the Italian School could boast a substantial number of women painters appreciated in their own time. Acquisitions such as Artemisia Gentileschi’s Sleeping Christ Child have enriched and diversified the Museum's holdings, while exhibitions like Marietta Cambareri’s “Strong Women in Renaissance Italy” (Fall 2023) expand our understanding of women’s lives in this period. Join us for a Zoom conversation about Early Modern Italian women painters with with Babette Bohn, Professor of Art History, Texas Christian University; and Judith Mann, Senior Curator of European Art to 1800, Saint Louis Art Museum.
