Spanish music, dance, and costume were in vogue in Paris during the late 19th century. For the Impressionists, the guitar embodied the bohemian lifestyle that they associated with Spanish culture, as well as the modern emphasis on depicting leisure activities. Explore more with Katie Hanson, curator of Paintings, Art of Europe; and Bobby Giglio, former Pappalardo Assistant Curator of Musical Instruments, and enjoy a live concert by early guitar specialist Olav Chris Henriksen.
