Making “Patterns of Greatness”

Students from the Museum’s Community Arts Initiative partners collaborated remotely over Zoom with artist Chanel Thervil to create the multimedia installation on view in “Patterns of Greatness” (May 8 to October 17, 2021). Composed of sculpture, collage, and a mural, the installation layers together visual patterns that affirm the students’ life experiences and amplify everyone’s capacity for greatness. Led by Thervil, the young artists closely observed patterns in the work of contemporary artists. Then they translated their own ideas across media and learned techniques that highlight the unique properties of different materials.

Enjoy this video of the young artists as they work together virtually and create art, set to original music by the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club of Boston.
