Hao Sheng on Yu Hong

Yu Hong responded to Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Silk (early 12th century), a treasure of the Museum’s collection attributed to the artist-emperor Huizong (1082–1135). Known for her depictions of women, the artist re-envisioned the Tang dynasty (618–907) Court Ladies as 21st-century women in Spring Romance. Watch as Hao Sheng, Wu Tung Curator of Chinese Art, explains the creative process behind Yu’s work and how her response serves as a narrative for modern Chinese women.
