Kathryn Harada, graduate intern in the Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Paintings Conservation Studio, uses a wide brush to apply the solvent gel to the surface. The gel sits on the surface of the wax for 3-5 minutes, and then is agitated using a cotton swab, before being rubbed off of the surface. Gel residues and remnant wax are cleared away using free solvent applied with cotton swabs. This process takes approximately 34.5 hours to complete.
