Water-cut Strips

The paper is first moistened with water along the cutting line using a very thin brush, and then scored with a bamboo spatula to ensure water is absorbed through multiple layers of paper. (For efficiency, multiple sheets are sometimes cut at the same time.) The paper is then torn by hand to create feather-like edges. The feather edges, when applied to the back of the painting, help the joins be even and smooth in both thickness and texture.
