Digital Member Cards
Digital MFA member cards, a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to plastic cards, can be downloaded to a smartphone’s Wallet and automatically update when your membership information changes. New MFA members receive a digital member card to access their free general admission, member-priced tickets, discounts, and more. See below for common questions about MFA member cards.
Why did a QR code replace the barcode on my member card?
QR codes work better at the parking kiosks. We switched to QR codes so members could enjoy a smoother parking experience at the MFA.
When will I receive my digital member card?
All new members receive their digital member card upon joining MFA membership. Once your membership is processed, you will receive an e-mail with instructions for how to download and access your new card within 7 business days.
How do I add the digital member card to my iPhone or Android phone?
iPhone Users
Open the e-mail with information about your member card from your smartphone and click the “Download” button at the bottom of the e-mail. Then click “Add to Wallet” and “Add.” The card will automatically save in your iPhone’s Apple Wallet and can be accessed there at any time.
Android Users
Download Wallet Passes from Google Play. Once the app is installed, you may download the card using the steps above for iPhone users. Your digital member card will automatically save to your Wallet Passes app, where it can be accessed at any time. Please see the “How-To Video” for additional step-by-step instructions on how to download the card to your phone.
Can I get a printed plastic card instead of a digital member card?
You can order a plastic card by e-mailing membership@mfa.org or by visiting a ticket desk during your next visit.
Can I get a printed plastic card in addition to a digital member card?
No, you may only select one card type per membership account: digital or plastic.
There are two named members associated with my membership. How can the second member receive a digital card?
All named members are required to have an e-mail on file to receive the digital card. If you need to update or provide a new e-mail address you may do so by e-mailing membership@mfa.org or by visiting a ticket desk during your next visit.
How can I view my member benefits on the digital member card?
Your membership benefits are listed on the back of your digital card.
I downloaded my card, but I can’t find it. What should I do?
iPhone Users
The card will automatically download to Apple Wallet. Check the app for your new card by scrolling through any cards that are already downloaded.
Android Users
You need to download Wallet Passes from the Google Play Store prior to downloading the card. Then the card will automatically save to your Wallet Passes app. Check the app for your new card by scrolling through any cards that are already downloaded.
Plastic Member Cards
I requested a plastic member card instead of a digital card. When will I receive it?
All new and renewing members who request a plastic card will receive their membership card within 14 to 21 business days of joining the MFA; however, your membership is effective immediately upon purchase, so you can always access discounts without your membership card.
How can I order a replacement plastic card?
You can order a replacement plastic card by e-mailing membership@mfa.org or by visiting a ticket desk during your next visit.
Using Your Member Card
Will my downloaded card update automatically when I renew?
Yes. Digital cards automatically update when your membership information changes, so you only need to download your card to your smartphone once.
How do I update the name on my digital member card?
Please e-mail membership@mfa.org with the update.
Can I visit the Museum if I forgot my card or my phone?
Yes, but we strongly recommend you remember to bring your card. If you forget it, simply visit a ticket desk with a photo ID when you arrive at the Museum, and you will be able to obtain your free general admission and discounts.
Can I visit special exhibitions with my card?
No, all members and nonmembers need a timed-entry ticket to visit a special exhibition. Your card alone does not provide entry into special exhibitions.
Can I get my parking discount if I forgot my card or my phone?
Yes, you can scan your member-priced admission ticket at the parking kiosk to receive your discount on parking.
How do I transfer my digital card to a new phone?
Please e-mail membership@mfa.org to request a new digital member card download link.
