The MFA Film Department currently screens more than 300 titles a year as part of their programming, which also includes nine international film festivals.
This summer, the MFA started a new trend by hosting “Sunset Cinema,” an open-air theater series that, as the name suggests, started at sundown on the Museum’s Huntington Avenue lawn. While the series got a delayed start due to weather in July, the August showing of the Paul Newman classic Cool Hand Luke and September’s screening of the horror flick Get Out proved to be great fun and the start of a new summer tradition.
The film series is a great example of the MFA 2020 Strategic Plan in action—especially in engaging and welcoming new audiences, as well as strengthening the Museum’s connection to the community.
